Ukraine said on Thursday that Russia was ultimately responsible for a deadly missile explosion in Poland this week, after Washington declared it was probably fired by Ukrainian air defence.
“We share the view that Russia bears full responsibility for its missile terror and its consequences in the territory of Ukraine, Poland and Moldova,” Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Twitter.
On Tuesday, a missile was fired into the Polish village of Przewodo near the border with Ukraine, killing two people, raising fears of an escalation of the conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday the missile was Russian but Kyiv’s allies said the explosion was caused by a Ukrainian air defense missile launched to deter Russian attacks.
Warsaw, Washington and NATO insisted that Moscow was ultimately to blame for invading Ukraine. The Kremlin said it had “nothing to do with the incident”.
