Jason David Frank, Longtime ‘Power Rangers’ Star, Dead at 49

Jason David Frank, one of the original stars of the Power Rangers series, has died at the age of 49.

A representative for Jason David Frank has confirmed that the fan-favorite Power Rangers actor passed away in Texas. TMZ reports that the death was the result of suicide.

Born in Covina, California, Jason David Frank was an actor and mixed martial artist who was best known for his work in the original run of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which aired on the Fox Kids programming block between 1993 to 1995. He played Tommy Oliver, the original Green Ranger.

Jason David Frank was originally expected to play Tommy Oliver for fourteen episodes, but the character became so popular that he was brought back as the White Ranger, becoming the leader of the Power Rangers. He continued playing Tommy in television and film adaptations of the series until 2019. He announced his retirement from the franchise in 2022.

Prior to his death, Jason David Frank was working on Legend of the White Dragon, a Power Rangers-inspired feature directed by Aaron Schoenke and Sean Schoenke, the duo behind the production company Bat in the Sun.

Jason David Frank is survived by four children. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
